Meet the Character Monday -- Will!

Will was inspired by my imaginary twin brother growing up. My siblings are all lots older than me, and there weren’t a lot of kids in our neighborhood, so I invented a brother to play with. All these long years later, I finally had an opportunity to bring that imaginary brother to life in Will. He’s strong, loyal, caring, funny and sarcastic. Even though he's trapped in a colony, hunted by his own family, and unwilling to put his personal life first, he's never bitter. He is the tie that holds Ari to her humanity when she feels like she's a monster.

"I'm an uber-powerful warrior. I don't need a babysitter. I need a brother who reminds me that I'm not a monster. Who loves me and always has my back. Who reminds me that I still have hope. If not for you, I would be lost. Remember that, Will." ~ Ari, Feudlings in Smoke

This is how I picture Will in my head, except with red and black hair

Meet Will:

Name: William Langley Delacour

Age: 27

Book Series: Fate on Fire/Feudlings in Smoke

Job: Computer Programmer. Will owns his own company and employs most of his colonists. He's also Guard to the Edren Prodigy, his sister Ari.

Hometown: He was born in Pennsylvania and lived there until he was 17, when he refused to fight in the war and the Family threw him out and then started hunting him. He made his home in a protected colony in Washington, where no one but Ari can get in or out without a saldepement spell.

Appearance: 6'1". Lanky, with wild red and black hair and brown eyes.

Best Friend: Ari, first. Dani, although he's in love with her and can't admit it. And Ward, the colony's most powerful healer.

Girlfriend: Dani, or at least he would like her to be, but the war and protecting Ari comes first.

WonHundred Word Wednesday

I'm starting this fun new thing with a bunch of other writers. Every Wednesday, we all get the same writing prompt, and we have to write a hundred word story to go with that prompt. Then we link to all the other blogs so you can see how differently one prompt can go. SO. This is my very first attempt at a hundred word story. Don't laugh :)

Seriously? You? Again? Everywhere, I see this girl. She could be my big sister--we look that similar. Except she's not, because I don't have a big sister.

Also, she has wings.

Wings, on a subway, would attract attention, or so you would think. But hers--pretty and shimmery and black--totally don't.

I am so done wondering why she's stalking me. I gather my courage. "Who are you?" My voice shakes. Courage, apparently, forgot to make me sound brave.

She smiles. "I'm Destiny. I'm waiting for you to follow me so I can spread my wings and soar."

Now go see how where everyone else took it!

Meet the Character Monday--Charity!!

Ready to meet our resident Seer? When I created Charity, I basically put every single thing I've ever wanted in a best friend into her. She's incredibly loyal. She only sees the good in people, and she never gives up on them, no matter how hard they push her away. Plus, she's kind and sweet, but she has a killer sense of humor that you never see coming. And she won't back down, even from Hunter's temper. This girl definitely has a backbone!

Her only flaw is that she's been told her whole life that she's a worthless seer. That she has no real magic. And it takes Ari to show her that she's probably the most powerful seer ever, she just, ironically, can't see it.

Meet Charity:

Name: Charity Delyle

Age: 17

Book Series: Fate on Fire/Feudlings in Smoke

Job: Student. Seer. Cousin to the Prodigy. Best friend. Mediator when Hunter and Ari try to kill each other.

Hometown: Detroit, Michigan.

Family: She was taken from her family when she was a baby and raised by the Carules Council. Her parents gave her up because they were so ashamed that she had no magical ability, and they named her Charity after the seer who had the prophesy of the war and refused to try to stop it. She is Shane's cousin, although they're super close--more like sister and brother.

Appearance: 5'6", super slender. Big silver eyes, white blond hair.

Best Friend: Before Ari, she had many friends but not a best friend. Nev and Olivia were her closest friends, except for Hunter and Shane and they had to be. But once Ari came, she quickly took the spot and stayed there for forever.

Boyfriend: Eventually, Hunter, although it takes super extreme measures before he'll realize that protecting Shane and following the war isn't the only thing in life he can have.

The Spark of a Feudling

This is a bittersweet day for me. One I've waited for, hoped for, dreamed of. Also dreaded. Today I released the last book in the Fate on Fire series.

One year exactly from the day Feudlings released.

Hate can start a war, but a shattered heart can fuel it for centuries.
Everything Ada does is wrong. She’s the daughter of a Duke but she isn’t proper or formal. She prefers the company of her servants—particularly Christian, the boy she’s loved since she was six years old, and his sister, Charity, Ada’s very best friend in the entire world.
Ada isn’t just the daughter of a Duke. No, she’s the daughter of one of the most powerful Edren sorcerers alive, and no matter how strong she is, it isn’t strong enough. Ada will give up almost everything to earn her father’s pride.
Christian has loved Ada since the day his mother became her governess. But two societies are determined to keep them apart—the aristocracy who say a groom will never be good enough for a Duke’s beautiful daughter, and the sorcerers who say a Carules and an Edren can never be together. Christian will do anything to make Ada his—even drive himself to madness.
When Ada suspects her father of hurting Charity and Christian in his quest for knowledge, she is torn between loyalty to him, and a fierce determination to protect them. The division tears her soul and breaks her heart.
The pieces of her broken heart will start a war that can only be stopped by the death of the most powerful warrior alive by the hand of the boy who loves her.

**Bonus Story –Feudlings in Peace**Join  Ari, Shane, Ada, Christian and everyone they love as they chase their happily ever after.

He sprinted down the path, into the forest, leaping over huge rocks and tree roots and through streams he couldn’t see but his magic told him were there. He had no idea where he was going, but there seemed to be a tether from his heart to hers — he always knew where Ada was. He ran straight to them, nearly colliding with her father’s guards as he raced through the thick trees.
“What happened to her?” he bellowed, jerking Ada out of Davis’s bloodstained arms.
“She was hit, saving me,” Harrison answered. “Can you help her?”
If there had been time, any time at all, Christian would have paused at that. How exactly had his tiny little Ada saved the giant Harrison? But there wasn’t time. He laid her on the thick grass, searching for the wound. But there was so much blood.
“There!” Davis snapped, jabbing the air above her stomach.
Flames roiled across Christian’s hands and he held them above her, letting the flames soothe the skin before he tried to touch it. They swirled through the air, seeping and mending the broken, charred skin.
“Does she breathe?” Harrison asked, crouching close to put his face next to her mouth.
Christian ignored him. He didn’t care if she breathed or not.
She would breathe, or he would die with her.
“She does.” Harrison sat back, relieved.
“Can you not heal at all? Stop the blood flow from her shoulder!” Christian snapped.
Harrison gaped at him. “We’re Edren. We don’t heal.”
“I’m Carules and I can throw a lirik if need be,” Christian muttered under his breath, but he couldn’t argue with them now.
She moaned.
They all froze in shock, and then redoubled their efforts. Davis jerked his shirt off and held it to her shoulder while Christian’s blue flames leaped and danced from his hands, fighting the poison eating through her body.
“Christian. I knew—” she whispered as her skin healed, leaving only pink burns behind.
“Shhh. Don’t speak. You’re still very weak.” He moved from her stomach to her shoulder, pushing Davis’ shirt out of the way. It was stiff with dried blood and she shrieked when he ripped it from the wound. “Forgive me, dear one,” he whispered, his mouth near her temple, kissing the pain away. “Forgive me.”
“I knew… you would come. I knew you… could heal me.” Her eyes fluttered open, dazed with pain, dark orbs barely reflecting the moonlight.

“Always, Ada. Forever.”

Meet the Character Monday -- Lil Bit

Lil Bit is the most adorable little character ever. From Warrior Beautiful, she's eleven, looks like she's eight, and is treated like she's six. In almost every scene I write with this girl, I end up with goosebumps or chills.

Lil Bit is "special". Her parents and teachers think she's crazy because she sees things. Monsters, unicorns. Things no one else can see. Only her big sister, Scout, believes her and tries to protect her, but even Scout can't save her from the demons.
Only the unicorns can do that.

I love Lil Bit because she's tiny, but she's wise beyond her years and then suddenly she's right back to being a little girl. She gives Ashra and Scout strength when they don't have any of their own. She believes in the good of all people, no matter what they've done. Basically, Lil Bit is my hope and faith in humanity, all rolled up into one little girl.

Name: Veronica. AKA: Lil Bit:

Age: Eleven

Book Series: Warrior Beautiful/Riders of Paradesos

Job: Little Sister. She warns of the demons coming and is thought by the unicorns to be the great warrior who will lead them to the end of the war. Believer in good, giver of strength.

Hometown: Colombia Falls, MT

Family: Two parents who think she's the golden child, but also think she's crazy. One big sister who thinks she's the greatest thing ever.

Appearance: 3'9", slender, big brown eyes, thick lashes. Dark brown hair. Looks like her daddy.

Best Friend: Scout. And the mysterious white unicorn that even Paradesos has never heard of.

Boyfriend: Not for at least twenty years, or so Scout says.

Meet the Character Monday--Hunter!!

Hunter is quite possibly my most popular male character. He's just a little bit bad boy, super gruff, says it like it is, and isn't afraid of anything--except failing Shane and losing Charity.

The reason I love his popularity so much is because his personality is based on my husband. Almost down to a T (I'm totally not sure where that phrase comes from so I'm not positive I'm using it correctly). Hunter is obsessed with football--watching, playing, talking about it. He drives a big black truck and he's Ari's favorite person in the world to drive insane.

But Hunter has to be larger than life. He's the Guard to the Carules Prodigy, after all. He has to be huge and threatening and imposing and all that scary stuff, even if he has a heart of gold.  So I drew inspiration for his character from Heath Miller, my favorite Tight End ever (He plays for the Pittsburgh Steelers, in case you were wondering). My husband pictures him more like Chris Hemsworth. So I'm posting both for you to see :)

You be the judge

Name: Hunter Millen

Age: 17

Book/Series: Feudlings side character and has his own book--Feudlings in Sight/Fate on Fire series

Hometown: Edgewood, New Mexico/Detroit, Michigan

Family: His dad died when he was 12. But Hunter was taken from his family when he was very young and raised by the Council. He snuck in visits and phone calls to his mom, little brother and little sister, all of whom make appearances in Feudlings in Flames.

Appearance: 6'1", super broad shoulders. He's got golden eyes and short blond hair.

Best Friend: Shane Delyle. Even though he's sworn to protect him as his Guard, Hunter and Shane have been best friends since they were really young. Shane drives Hunter nuts sometimes, but he's always there when Shane needs him--no matter what.

Girlfriend--Charity Delyle. Shane's cousin and their seer. Hunter and Charity fight their feelings until the war is over, and it takes almost losing her completely before Hunter will finally admit he's in love with her. But he fights to get her back and swears to never let her go again.

Meet the Character Monday--on Tuesday--Trey!!!

So yesterday I had a school visit. And then, because I went to the school visit while I had mono, I came home and got really sick.

I'm so sorry. *hangs head in shame*

So I'm posting it on Tuesday. Let's all pretend I actually posted it yesterday and I'm not a slacker.

Meet Trey!

Trey is my most favorite boy I've written. I adore how much he loves Scout, how he keeps hoping even though it's killing him, how he'll go to the ends of the earth (literally) for her. I love how tortured he is, and how loyal. Plus, he's super cute.

This is what he looks like in my head:
Yes. It's Colin Farrel. I love him. I also don't know how to spell his name.

Name: Trey

Age: 17

Book/Series: Warrior Beautiful/Riders of Paradesos

Hometown: Columbia Falls, Montana

Family: He has awesome parents and two younger brothers. All three boys look almost identical, but as the oldest, Trey is still the biggest and he reminds them of that constantly. He thinks his brothers are a pain, but when they get taken by the soul stealers, Trey is devastated and will do anything to save them.

Appearance: 6', broad, big football player. Spiky black hair, dark brown eyes. He always wears nine leather bands on his wrist for reasons unknown (until Warrior Everlasting, when they are explained.)

Best Friend: Cole. He's the running back for the football team. He's also taken by the soul stealers, as are most everyone in their town--as punishment for Trey and Scout helping Iros.

Girlfriend: Kylin. She's small, blond, and a fashionista who has one pet peeve--Scout. For good reason, since pretty much the entire world knows Kylin's boyfriend is still in love with his ex-girlfriend.
